How Snoop Dogg TROLLED the entire world

The biggest marketing gimmick of the year

Snoop Dogg broke the internet with just one post viz. “After much consideration and conversation with my family, I’ve decided to give up smoke, Please respect my privacy at this time.” Snoop wrote in a message shared on Instagram and X(formerly twitter).

This post came as a shock to millions of his followers and weed lovers who idolised him. The post got ~5 Million Likes, 175k comments(probably any Marketer’s dream come true) with most comments in support and some guessing that snoop might be launching an edibles brand.

However, the post had nothing to do with Marijuana and within a week Snoop, came clean and clarified in another post that he is done with the “coughing and his clothes smelling all sticky icky“ hence he is switching to a smokeless solo stove the “Snoop Stove“.

What can we learn from Snoop Dogg's "Giving Up Smoke" Gimmick:

Curiosity and Controversy Drive Engagement:

Snoop Dogg used a shocking statement about quitting something deeply associated with his persona to ignite curiosity and spark debate. This generated massive engagement, with millions reacting and speculating, turning the post viral.

By claiming family discussions and introspection led to his decision, Snoop evoked a sense of authenticity and maturity. This resonated with audiences, leading to supportive comments and widespread awareness.

Surprise and Twist for Maximum Impact:

Snoop's initial announcement fueled anticipation for a major life change or venture. The subsequent revelation of the "Snoop Stove" as the reason maximized the impact of the marketing campaign, leaving a lasting impression.

Leveraging Humor and Relatable Issues:

Snoop's lighthearted explanation about quitting "coughing and sticky icky clothes" added humor and relatability to the campaign. This made the message more engaging and memorable for his target audience.
